Shel’s artwork is an exploration of what lies beyond — beyond the horizon, imagination, truth, and our own humanity. Inspired by her travels through New Mexico and the American Southwest, she draws from the vast high desert, the quiet strength of mesas, the silhouettes of oil derricks, and the interplay of natural and man-made forms. Her work blends structure and spontaneity, using nature, philosophy, music, and human connection to guide form and color in ways that invite reflection and curiosity.

Raised in the Ozark Mountains, Shel’s early connection to the land began with photographing flowers, plants, and trees, hiking rivers, and fishing lakes. Her musical background informs her one-stroke gestures and bold color choices, while her belief in hope and grace for all emerges in the negative spaces and openness she creates. Each piece offers viewers a space to pause, breathe, and experience something both unexpected and deeply familiar.
